In business since 1939, this intimate Colorado skiing resort in the nestled between two of Colorado's most impressive mountain ranges. The 14,000 foot peaks of the Sawatch and Sangre de Cristo ranges provide a stirring setting for one of central Colorado's best-kept secrets.

Lift ticket prices remain modest at this family-oriented resort, but that doesn't mean that you have to skimp on the skiing or snowboarding. The new Mirkwood Basin adds 130 acres of expert level glades, bowls, and cliffs for adrenaline-pumped challenge while the family hones their skills on the beginner-friendly bunny slopes. Monarch also offers some of the best tree skiing in the state.

Accommodations and Lodging
Monarch Lodge and several private cabins/homes are available near the ski area. Take advantage of off-season rates just a short drive from the ski area in Salida, Howard, or Buena Vista.

The River Hideaway is 35 miles east of the ski area and offers a mild, sunny climate down near the Arkansas River, yet an easy drive up the mountain. In winter, you will find very attractive off-season rates and a warm fireplace, views and all the comforts of a home.

Restaurants and Relaxation
When you finish your day's adventure, choose from a wide selection of Salida restaurants, or soak your muscles in one the area's many hot springs. Choose from a number of Salida's quality entertainment venues, including performances at the Salida Steam Plant, music concerts at Bongo Billy's Salida Cafe, or movies at the Storyville Cinema.

Monarch Mountain's Special Activities
Events throughout the winter season include races for all levels of competition. A must-see event is Monarch's free New Years Eve celebration, which includes the popular fireworks display originating from the top of Monarch Mountain. The first night of the new year comes alive with a popular fireworks display as well as a torchlight procession down the mountain.

With lift ticket prices almost half that of the more well-known resorts and easy access from Denver and Colorado Springs, Monarch provides a great value as well as great skiing and snowboarding.
